MZBC Youth 3v3 Basketball Tournament

On Saturday, December 14, MZBC Youth is proud to host a 3v3 Basketball Tournament to support the Good Samaritan Medical Clinic of Lowndes County.

The Good Samaritan Medical Clinic of Lowndes County, a nonprofit organization, provides free primary health care, health-related information and referral to the working poor of Lowndes County.

Here’s what you need to know (Please read before signing up):

  • The cost per team is $30. You can pay at the church during office hours or bring money to check-in on the day of the tournament.
  • The top three teams in each division will receive cash prizes:
    • 1st place: $150
    • 2nd place: $90
    • 3rd place: $30
  • Teams will be divided between middle and high school divisions. Proof of age will be required for everyone entering the tournament. Middle School-aged students may play in the High School division, but High School-aged students may not play in the Middle School division.
  • Games will be played to 11. Teams must win by 2 points. A team may also win if they are the first to reach 15, even if they’re not ahead by 2 points.
  • The tournament will be double elimination.
  • All games will be self-officiated. In the event of a dispute, an official will be present. If a player repeatedly commits flagrant fouls, they will be disqualified for the rest of the tournament. No free throws will be attempted.
  • Once a game begins, no substitutions will be allowed, except in the case of an injury. If a player is disqualified, or cannot continue the tournament for any other reason, the team may substitute another player for future games.
  • Participants are expected to play fairly and give good sportsmanship the highest priority. Profanity and dirty play will not be tolerated.
  • Gameplay
    • Possession changes after every basket (not “make-it, take-it”). Possession begins by checking the ball at the top of the key.
    • Baskets made inside the 3-point line are worth 1 point. Baskets made outside the 3-point line are worth 2 points.
    • On defensive rebounds (including airballs) and steals, the ball must be passed or dribbled beyond the arc. As long as the ball goes beyond the arc, there are no limitations on who can shoot it.
    • A ball is out of bounds if it touches or crosses the baseline, sidelines, or half-court line. The ball is awarded to the other team and must be taken at the top of the key.
    • The offensive team must pass the ball in before a shot is attempted.
